Two-time Major League Lacrosse MVP Paul Rabil traded to NY Lizards
The Boston Cannons have traded midfielder Paul Rabil to the New York Lizards, Major League Lacrosse announced Monday.
Rabil, 29, is a two-time league MVP and has been an All-Star in each of his seven seasons in the league. Rabil led all MLL midfielders in scoring last season with 20 goals and 33 assists in 12 games. He has been a first-team All-Pro selection in each of the past six seasons. In 2012, Rabil set the MLL record for points in a season.
Widely considered the game’s top player, Rabil is the first lacrosse player to sign more than $1 million in endorsement deals.
Rabil had spent his entire MLL career with the Cannons after the team drafted him with the first pick in the 2008 draft.
The deal is a three-team trade that also involves the Ohio Machine. The Lizards acquire Rabil and midfielder Mike Stone. The Cannons receive Max Seibald, two first-round draft picks and a second-round pick from New York. Boston acquires defenseman Chad Wiedmaier and a first-round pick from the Machine. Ohio acquires defenseman Brian Karalunas from New York and a seventh-round pick from Boston.
